zcode-agent-valid¶
ZCode subagents must declare a name and a description in frontmatter

| Autofix | - |
| Since | v0.23.0 |
| Repo Types | zcode-marketplace, zcode-plugin, zcode-project |
| Category | ZCode |
Why¶
ZCode loads project subagents from the Markdown files directly inside
.zcode/agents/, and plugin subagents from a ZCode plugin's agents/
directory. It lists each subagent to the model as name: description and
uses that line to decide when to delegate. A file with no frontmatter, or no
non-empty name and description, is skipped. Plugin agents get no
filename fallback for name, unlike Claude Code's, so a plugin that ships
both a ZCode and a Claude manifest needs name for ZCode to load it.
Severity¶
Errors: ZCode skips the agent.
- Missing frontmatter or a missing, empty or non-string
nameordescription. ZCode reads frontmatter onekey: valueline at a time, regardless of YAML validity. A value must be on the key's line: an indented continuation is not read as the description. - Numeric or boolean values such as
name: 2024orname: trueare not strings. Quote them to use them as names. The literalnullis a string in ZCode, and an unquoted colon indescription: Use when: reviewing a PRalso loads.
Warnings: a memory value other than user, project or local. ZCode
ignores the value and loads the agent without memory.
